Our Vancouver LASIK center features a range of advanced laser technologies designed to correct various refractive errors and enhance patients’ visual acuity. The practice’s lead surgeon, Dr. Joseph King, has many years of experience performing leading-edge LASIK procedures and has helped more than 90,000 patients realize their vision correction goals. Dr. King’s extensive experience and dedication have helped him become recognized as a foremost laser eye surgery provider. Read on to learn more about his treatment approach.

Vancouver Eye Surgery Technology

As an experienced Vancouver LASIK surgeon, Dr. King believes that the best LASIK results can be achieved only by using the best available laser technologies. His Vancouver laser eye surgery center features several of the latest surgical and diagnostic technologies, including the VISX Star S4 excimer laser system, the WaveScan technology and the IntraLase platform. Dr. King combines these devices to deliver highly individualized treatment plans.

Dr. King begins treatment by performing a series of eye exams. As part of this process, he uses the WaveScan device to create a 3-D map of the cornea. This map reveals even the smallest imperfections in the corneal shape, which are responsible for the patient’s nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Dr. King uses this map to program the VISX Star S4 excimer laser platform, which he uses to deliver the laser treatment. However, before the excimer laser energy is applied onto the cornea, Dr. King must create a corneal flap. While many surgeons use a mechanical blade to accomplish this task, Dr. King employs an IntraLase laser, which creates a thinner, more uniform flap than can be created with a mechanical blade. As a result, his Vancouver laser eye surgery patients enjoy better overall outcomes and enhanced vision at nighttime. Another benefit to using sophisticated laser technology is the reduced LASIK surgery risks. Overall, Dr. King’s patients have a very low rate of complications.

Compassionate Patient Care

Dr. King and his medical team understand that many patients who come to their laser eye surgery Vancouver offices feel uneasy about undergoing surgery. Eyesight is a precious gift, and most people feel apprehensive about any surgical manipulations of the eye. In order to relieve their anxiety and promote relaxation, Dr. King and his team carefully explain every step of the LASIK procedure. They also encourage their patients to ask questions and raise any concerns they might have. As a past LASIK patient himself, Dr. King understands that thorough patient preparation is a key part of a successful Vancouver LASIK surgery.

How Much Is LASIK Surgery?

One of the most frequently asked questions Dr. King receives is about LASIK surgery costs. Truthfully, the cost of LASIK eye surgery is calculated by the individual case, and depends on factors such as the technology used. Dr. King uses the latest LASIK technology and premium lasers. A personal consultation with Dr. King is recommended in order to receive a personalized pricing quote.

How will my life improve after having LASIK?

Some of our Vancouver LASIK patients have told us that laser eye surgery is a life-changing experience. Not only do they see the world in high-definition, but they are free from daily dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

After LASIK, you can perform simple tasks like reading the newspaper headlines or checking a text message without reaching for your eyeglasses or putting in your contacts. You can run, bike and exercise without worrying about your glasses fogging up or falling off your face. You can get up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water without fumbling around for your glasses. You may find that your peripheral and night vision improve significantly after LASIK.

Some patients even note a reduction in allergy symptoms and sinus pain without glasses sitting on their nose all day.

How can I find a leading Vancouver LASIK surgeon?

Look no further than King LASIK, serving Vancouver and other locations in British Columbia. Our medical director, Dr. Joseph King, is one of the most experienced surgeons in the area. He has helped more than 90,000 people achieve clear vision through laser eye surgery. Dr. King and his team use leading edge technology to enhance patient safety and comfort throughout the operation. Many people in and around Vancouver enjoy a better quality of life, thanks to laser vision correction with the King LASIK team.

How do I prepare for LASIK?

The most important thing to do is stop wearing contact lenses for about two weeks prior to surgery. This gives your corneas a chance to stabilize. Also, make the appropriate plans for your day of surgery. Fill prescriptions ahead of time. Request a few days off from work to recover. Arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and stay with you. You will be groggy immediately after surgery and need assistance getting home.

Do I qualify for LASIK?

The best way to determine whether you qualify for LASIK is to schedule a consultation with the King LASIK team. You may be eligible for LASIK if you are at least 19 years old and nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. Your corneas cannot be too thin, or else our doctors may recommend an alternative to LASIK. Your vision prescription should be stable for at least 12 months. Finally, you should be in good general health and free of any eye infections or other disorders.

To schedule a consultation, please contact King LASIK today.

What are some Vancouver activities to do after recovering from LASIK?

There are many exciting activities in Vancouver to enjoy after your LASIK surgery. If you love animals, plan a trip to the Vancouver Aquarium. If you are very active, bike around Coal Harbour or cycle through the lush paths of Pacific Spirit Regional Park. Take in a hockey game or attend an outdoor festival, like the Jazz Festival or Celebration of Light fireworks festival. Don’t forget to visit the Stanley Park seawall.
