Dr. Joseph King is an exceptionally talented LASIK surgeon who has dedicated his career to helping his patients achieve excellent vision without eyeglasses. Professional Background

Joseph King, MD, received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine in Vancouver. Dr. King then completed an internship at several University of British Columbia-affiliated hospitals, followed by an ophthalmology residency at Case Western Reserve, St. Luke’s Medical Center in Cleveland. As a testament to his skill and dedication, Dr. King was selected as the Chief Resident in his final year. After completing the required postgraduate training, Dr. King also served an advanced fellowship in laser vision correction at the University of South Florida Eye Institute.

Prior to opening his own LASIK practice, Dr. Joseph King served as a staff surgeon at LASIK Vision Institute in Bellevue, Washington, and as a Director of King LASIK, a group of LASIK centers. He has also served as the Chief Surgeon at LASIK MD in Vancouver and Calgary and as the Medical Director of Restore Vision Centers and LASIK MD centers in British Columbia and Alberta.

Research and Innovation

Dr. King developed a keen interest in laser vision correction while in medical school. He has pursued that interest by serving as a clinical investigator for numerous research projects and by evaluating several new laser eye surgery technologies. In 2010, Dr. Joseph King became the first eye surgeon in the world to perform LASIK using a new custom Wavefront-technology LASIK platform. He was also one of the first surgeons to perform LASIK using the Zyoptix XP microkeratome, Zyoptix-TS software and the Bausch and Lomb Z-100 laser platform. As further evidence of his trailblazing use of new technology, Dr. King was the first surgeon in Alberta to perform iLASIK, a sophisticated vision correction procedure that combines the IntraLase femtosecond laser, the AMO VISX excimer laser, Wavefront cornea mapping technology and an advanced iris registration device.

When he is not performing LASIK Dr. King enjoys his free time with his family, skiing, watersports, travelling and distance running. Both Dr. King and his wife Holly have competed recently in the Boston Marathon.

Dr. Brice Nicholson

Born and raised in Maryland, Dr. Brice Nicholson joined the US Air Force in 1985 and served as a Romanian cryptologic interpreter at the National Security Agency. After his enlistment, he attended college at Francis Marion University in South Carolina, graduating cum laude with a degree in English / Chemistry.

Professional Background

Dr. Nicholson was awarded a US Navy four year medical school scholarship, graduating with honors from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. During his senior year of medical school, Dr. Nicholson was accepted into the Sigma Sigma Phi Honor Medical Society. In 1999, upon completion of his internship year at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, he served as a medical officer at the United States Naval Academy.

After moving to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Dr. Nicholson began Flight Surgeon training. At the completion of his training in 2000, where he received the prestigious Surgeon General’s Award, he transferred to Naval Air Station Willow Grove to become the base flight surgeon. In 2002 he began his ophthalmology residency training at Naval Medical Center San Diego. After serving as Chief Resident, he graduated and transferred to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune, NC. As a comprehensive ophthalmologist and Director of the Refractive Surgery Center, Dr. Nicholson treated active duty members from all of the military services.

In 2007, Dr. Nicholson was chosen to fill a key joint-service position at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, where he served as Chairman of the Ophthalmology Department, as well as Director of the Warfighter Refractive Surgery Center. Having performed general ophthalmic and refractive surgery for thousands of active duty members, Dr. Nicholson decided to transfer to Naval Hospital Bremerton, Washington to complete his military career.

Providing surgical eye care for those in great need has been a highly rewarding experience for Dr. Nicholson. Over the past decade, he has completed humanitarian missions to many foreign countries, including Morocco, Vietnam, Cambodia, Guatemala, and more. During these missions he has been able to use his skills to restore vision for hundreds of blind children and adults.

Board Certified in Ophthalmology, Dr. Nicholson is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He has performed thousands of refractive eye surgeries, including LASIK, PRK, LASEK and ICL surgery. He had refractive eye surgery himself in 2002 and he remains 20/20, without correction, to this day.
Dr. Nicholson enjoys many outdoor activities with his wife and two daughters, including skiing, snowboarding, swimming and hiking. Other personal interests include foreign travel, auto racing, and tinkering in his garage.

Gary Fillmore, M.D., received his Bachelor´s degree from Brigham Young University, graduating cum laude. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Upon graduating from medical school Dr. Fillmore entered active military service as an officer in the United States Army. After completing an internship at Fort Lewis’ Madigan Army Medical Center, Dr. Fillmore completed his ophthalmology training at the Army’s flagship hospital- Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Here he received multiple military honors and served his final year as the Chief Resident. Dr. Fillmore served as a refractive surgeon for the military’s highly regarded Warfighter Refractive Eye Surgery Program, providing these life-changing procedures to Airborne and Infantry Soldiers at Walter Reed, Fort Campbell, Fort Bragg and Fort Gordon.

I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. I completed my Medical Degree (MD) at the University of Alberta and completed my surgical training at the University of Western Ontario, where I received my Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC). I am also committed to teaching as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia.
Surgical techniques and technology in eye care is ever advancing. It is a complicated specialty within medicine. I believe in keeping up-to-date in ophthalmic knowledge and offering the latest and best in eye care and surgery. My mission is to offer each and every patient the best in eye care to achieve the best vision possible.
Outside of the office, you will find me spending time with my wife and our dog, Milo. We enjoy running, hiking and biking. Other passions of mine include reading and photography. I am interested in keeping physically fit and always very interested in trying all new things!

EDUCATION

Dr. Ma graduated from the University of Toronto, as a Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Ma then worked at UCLA, completing a Glaucoma Research. He attended Stanford University as a part of his Ophthalmology Residency at the University of British Columbia. He then continued his training and interest in his profession with several other fellowships, including a position as a Fellow of Refractive Surgery, at the University of Southern California, while proctoring other surgeons during their surgery, performing PRK and LASIK.

REFRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

With the experience of over 20,000 refractive procedures and 17 years of refractive experience, Dr. Ma is among one of the most experienced surgeons in the Pacific Northwest. He has trained and certified numerous U.S. surgeons in California, Washington, Illinois and Texas on excimer laser surgery, and taught internationally in Korea, Taiwan, and China, in laser refractive surgery and intraocular surgery. He presently serves as consulting Medical Director for OIC Eye Group in Los Angeles. He has held many advisory and consulting positions where his experience is highly respected.

Dr. Colin Nelson

Dr. Colin Nelson, director of the Victoria Corneal Laser Centre has been in ophthalmology practice in Victoria since 1980, specializing in corneal and cataract surgery. He is the most experienced laser refractive surgeon in Victoria and Vancouver Island.

As of September 2004 he has personally performed over 10,000 laser vision correction procedures. Dr. Nelson still maintains a very personal and caring approach to each patient and treats each patient as an individual deserving the best possible care. He checks each patient’s refraction personally and limits the number of laser vision correction patients to 6 per day.

Dr. Nelson has designed procedures for the prevention of flap wrinkles in LASIK and haze following PRK. He has published many articles and lectured widely in ophthalmology and is often consulted in difficult cases. Dr. Nelson has been the head surgeon at the Victoria Corneal Laser Centre since 1994. He has treated numerous colleagues, Victoria Corneal Laser Centre staff and members of his own family with laser vision correction.

Dr. Nelson trained in corneal diseases and surgery at the Corneo Plastic Centre in East Grinstead, England and continually retrains in new methods and procedures to remain on top of the latest advancements in technology.

Dr. Nelson has volunteered his time and expertise to the Medical Group Missions (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras), St. John Ophthalmic Hospital, Jerusalem, and the International Eye Foundation (St. Kitts).

Dr. Erin Seefeldt

Dr. Erin Seefeldt is a comprehensive, Board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in refractive surgery. She takes pride in personalized care with an emphasis on safety and individualized surgical plans.

Professional Background

Dr. Seefeldt graduated from University of Oregon prior to joining the Army in 2000.  She served as a Hospital Administrator and Medical Logistician before completing her medical degree. She has worked in Texas, Honduras, Japan and Germany. She attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. Upon graduation, she completed her Ophthalmology residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA.  Dr. Seefeldt also served as the Chief Resident during her final year of residency.

Dr. Seefeldt has served as faculty for the Madigan Ophthalmology residency program and has also served as an assistant professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University.  She has been instrumental in instructing residents in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Seefeldt also worked as part of a surgeon advisory team to instruct other physicians in the use of performance techniques used by elite athletes to perform consistently under high levels of pressure.

Dr. Seefeldt is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She has performed thousands of eye surgeries including LASIK, PRK, ICL and cataract surgery.

Dr. Seefeldt enjoys many outdoor activities with her husband and two children, including skiing, kayaking and cycling. Other personal interests include travel, art and gardening.

Dr. Don Travis

Dr. Travis is a graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry where he obtained his doctorate in optometry in 1994 with distinction. He has practiced in the Kennewick area since 1994 and joined King Lasik in 2009. Dr. Travis has been involved in the care and comanagement of laser refractive surgery patients since its introduction to the US in 1998. When not practicing at King Lasik he practices primary care optometry in Kennewick.

Dr. Scott Lewis

A Northwest native from Hillsboro, Oregon, Dr. Scott Lewis attended Pacific University for both under graduate and optometry studies where he also played NAIA collegiate baseball. Dr Lewis is a member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society and received his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors in 2000.

During his final year of optometry school, Dr. Lewis had a clinical rotation at Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute where he was well trained in the areas of ocular disease diagnosis and management.

Dr. Lewis has worked for King Lasik for over 10 years, and has seen thousands of pre and post-operative Lasik patients. He has trained many new optometrists in the preoperative and postoperative care of laser vision surgery patients.

In his free time Dr. Lewis likes spending time with his wife and two sons, playing and coaching baseball and basketball. He also enjoys traveling internationally.

Born in Vietnam, but her family immigrated to the United States when she was 5 years old, along with her parents and 5 siblings. Her parents have been a beautiful and impactful model of love to her, helping shape and encourage her to live with purpose and intention, and to invest in the things on her heart that would bare eternal value.

Since 2005, Dr. Vuu has been part of Cornerstone’s many medical missions team that have reached Vietnam and Cambodia, providing free medical, dental and eye care in less reached villages where healthcare is scarce and resources are not readily available. She serves on the Cornerstone missions core team, and has helped lead teams overseas yearly. After a few years in the field, she wanted to pursue optometry school so that she could be even more involved in the world of vision.

Professional Background

Stephanie graduated with a degree in biology from Washington State University in 2000 and Doctorate of Optometry with honors from Pacific University in 2005. While completing her degree, she was able to serve and lead humanitarian missions to give eye exams and glasses to those less fortunate. Since graduation, Stephanie has worked both in LASIK and in private practice. She joined King LASIK on a permanent basis in 2010.
