Dr. Andrew Kopstein

ICL & Advanced Lens-Based Vision Correction Specialist
Dr. Andrew Kopstein is one of North America’s most experienced surgeons in lens-based vision correction, with a particular focus on EVO ICL™ (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery. Having performed more than 60,000 lens-based procedures, he brings an unparalleled level of insight into lens selection, surgical precision, and long-term visual outcomes—experience that directly benefits patients seeking EVO ICL™ as an alternative to LASIK or PRK.
Unlike many surgeons who divide their time across multiple procedures, Dr. Kopstein has dedicated his practice exclusively to lens-based vision correction. His clinical work centers on advanced procedures such as EVO ICL and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), allowing him to refine techniques, optimize results, and stay deeply immersed in the evolving science of intraocular lenses. This focused approach places him among a small group of surgeons nationwide who specialize solely in these technologies.

Dr. Kopstein is also widely recognized for his role in advancing lens-based innovation. He has published surgical outcomes data and is among the earliest adopters of next-generation lens technology. Notably, he became the first surgeon in the world to complete over 3,000 Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) implants, a milestone that reflects both surgical volume and mastery of postoperative visual customization—skills that translate directly to superior ICL planning and execution.
Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Kopstein is an active member of leading professional organizations, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). He is also affiliated with the Washington Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, maintaining close involvement with national advancements in refractive and lens-based care.
Dr. Kopstein earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan. With more than two decades in ophthalmology, his early career was defined by managing some of the field’s most complex surgical challenges—including corneal transplantation, advanced glaucoma procedures, and complicated intraocular lens cases. This background laid the foundation for the precision, judgment, and problem-solving required in high-level ICL surgery today.
Today, Dr. Kopstein devotes his full surgical practice to helping patients achieve exceptional vision through advanced lens-based solutions. His depth of experience, focused specialization, and commitment to innovation make him a leading authority in EVO ICL surgery.
