EASY HOME REMEDIES

DIY Party-Ready Eyes
With all the sprucing, cleaning, decorating, baking, shopping and gift-wrapping that’s going on right now, it’s hard to remember sometimes that December is supposed to be the joyful month of the year. And the main event – Christmas –is not even here yet. Are you so overwhelmed by pre-Christmas chores that you’re too tired to even think about looking good at the social engagements penciled into your calendar?

To get back in the game, and looking your very best, you need to get calm, get sleep, and banish all evidence of tiredness and exhaustion from your eyes before the parties begin.

And to do that, we’re suggesting a number of DIY beauty packs that will clear dark circles, reduce puffiness and bring the sparkling spirit of the season right back in your eyes:

Coconut Oil Treatment

The many benedictions of coconut oil on our health and beauty regime are by now a well-known fact. From reviving luster in dull, dank hair to smoothing cracked heels and nourishing cuticles, coconut oil can do pretty much everything. (In case you didn’t know, coconut oil can also be used for cooking.)

The oil works wonders in reducing puffiness, wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes. If your eyes need a quick pick-me-up before a Christmas party, massage warm coconut oil over your eyes in a light, circular motion and then nap for a bit. While you sleep, the nutrients in the oil will soak into the delicate skin around the eye, reviving and rejuvenating it into a smooth, supple surface to start applying your make-up on.

Honey and Ginger Treatment

Ginger promotes proper blood circulation, while honey is a natural moisturizer. Together they do a great job of brightening tired eyes. Take a teaspoon of ginger extract or juice from a fresh piece of ginger. Add ½ teaspoon of honey and apply this liquidy paste to the area around your eyes. Leave on for 15-20 minutes and then wash off.

Honey and Green Cardamom Treatment

Green cardamom is a powerful antioxidant that detoxifies and cleanses the body internally. As the toxins are eliminated from the system, our skin becomes healthy and glowing. They also help retard the progress of ageing and its essential oil is very effective in removing wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. To revive dull, tired eyes, take 1 teaspoon of cardamom extract and mix with ½ teaspoon of honey. Apply around the eye area gently and leave on for 30 minutes before washing off.

Fennel Seeds Treatment

Fennel seeds make a great skin toner. Rich in Vitamin A, they help maintain good vision, and the antioxidants contained in these seeds promote overall health from a cellular level. To use as an eye-brightener, grind some fennel seeds into a smooth powder and make a thin paste with water. Place this paste in a piece of clean, damp cloth and use like a cold compress over the eyes. If your eyes are red and itchy, use fennel water to rinse.

Olive Oil and Green Tea Treatment

Place two dampened bags of green tea in the freezer for 8-10 minutes. Use this time to gently massage olive oil around the eye area. When the tea bags seem bearably cold, place them over your closed eye and relax. When you are done, your eyes will feel fresh and wide awake.

Cold Milk Treatment

Cold milk is one of the most nourishing home remedies for bright eyes. Soak two cotton balls in cold milk, place over the eyes like a poultice and relax while the milk works its magic.

Rose Water Treatment

Rose water is one of those things that should always be in your fridge. Use it to cook desserts, to tone, tighten and hydrate facial skin and to soothe tired, irritated eyes whenever necessary. If you’re in a hurry, then simply rinse your eyes out with cold rose water. If you have the time, enjoy a soothing, cold compress.
